I found this article about Amazon Kindle Unlimited very interesting.  It confirms what I have heard from other authors about the backlash to the author insofar as book sales.  Evidently, Kindle Unlimited is offered up by Amazon as a loss leader to draw in other sales.  However, the author is the one taking the loss, not Amazon. What are your thoughts on this new platform and what have you seen in your own sales numbers?

Christmas: A Reflection

Patrick Jones, author of The Wolf's Moon Book 1 The Linden Chronicles and Family

Christmas’s are a time to rejoice.

The last several Christmas’s I saw a great deal to lament.

Chuck, a friend who I valued as a brother, went to God’s keeping a cold Christmas morning.

The following year, Bill was assigned to help guard the streets of Heaven with his newest commanding officer – Saint Michael.

This year, my younger brother went to coach all the children who left us but for their shining smiles.  In Heaven, you never lose a soccer game.  If need be, Tim will change the rules.  He never was a man to disappoint a child.

As for me, many things turned my head from the dark to see light of the Christmas season.

My wife is always excited about Christmas.  She passed that excitement on to our son and daughter, and on to our four wonderful grandsons as well as our one and only beautiful grand-daughter.

The light of Christmas does not just radiate from the eyes of children waiting for Santa.

No, that light emanates from all people who wish to project the love to another person.

One day, what now seems a hundred years ago and only like yesterday, my son asked if I ever had a hero growing up.  Sadly, I never did.

Now I can honestly say, I have a great many hero’s.  They are called my family.

Donna thought there was something wrong with her. That she was suffering from a mental illness that has caused her husband to despise her, distance himself from her, and cheat on her. She blames herself for the desolate, miserable thing that is her marriage and her life. Then she comes across a book that will change everything for her, and reading it, she discovers that there’s nothing wrong with her mind at all, but that there is something very wrong with her husband instead. Marco, she realises, is a malignant narcissist. A text book case. He has a real and documented mental disorder, and that he’s been controlling, manipulating, and abusing her for decades. The sudden full knowledge of all that he’s purposely done to her enrages her. Not sure how to leave after thirty years of what she finally knows has been intentional mental and emotional abuse from him, and believing that she has nowhere to turn, being so physically isolated, she bides her time.

Then she meets and befriends a group of unusual people who share her passion for gardening, and so begins her journey to escape. She joins her new friends in their project to assist elderly people in old age homes care for their small gardens, as well as secretly supplying those suffering from painful and terminal illnesses with medicinal herb and plant remedies, including illegal plants such as cannabis. As weeks go by, she delves into her memories, relearns what it is to be respected, liked, and loved again, and slowly she formulates a plan to safely leave her dangerous husband. But unbeknownst to Donna, Marco is in serious trouble, and has desperate plans of his own, and absolutely no regard for her safety.

** This is a work of fiction, but malignant narcissists really do exist, and it is a recognised mental illness. Unfortunately, many people never realise that they are involved with a narcissist, because their actions are so demonically bad as to be unimaginable and unbelievable, and so they spend their lives in misery, depression, fear, and isolation. If only by the accidental reading of a fictional story, I hope that this book will help even one person, unknowingly suffering narcissistic abuse, to realise that they don’t have to, and that it’s never too late to start over, be happy, be fulfilled, to love and care for yourself, and be truly loved and respected by others.

The Linden Chronicles: The Wolf's Moon by Patrick Jones Amazon link4.  The impedance for the title of the book, The Wolf’s Moon, came about by the phase of the moon in January, Wolf Moon. You can read the blog about the title here:  http://wp.me/p2Oumz-3r and  great information here that was reblogged from Rob Mahan/Once in a Blue Moon:  http://wp.me/p2Oumz-Y

5.  The people in the area that I live were also the impedance for the content of the book.  The book takes place in the Ozark Mountains of Missouri.  You can read about this here:  http://wp.me/p2Oumz-2w

6.  I have 1 short story ready for edit, another short story WIP and the sequel to The Wolf’s Moon is my WIP to be released the first half of 2015.  At this point, I am not ready to reveal the covers or details for any of the three WIP’s…but…soon, very very soon.  I will be looking for bloggers to help promote at each release date.  If you are interested just drop me a message.  All help would be greatly appreciated!!

Curse of the Dark Wind by Charles E. Yallowitz

BOOK BUZZ TIPS

A successful book launch can really make a difference:

  • Early sales help a book start out with a good sales rank.
  • This gives the book better visibility, especially if the book lands on any of the bestseller lists (even in a subcategory).
  • The customers-also-bought list also builds faster.
  • If sales taper off, those early sales prevent the rank from sliding as quickly.
  • Early sales improve the chances for early reviews.

In this article, I will present a variety of ideas to assist with book promotion before, during, and shortly after the book launch.

To help illustrate some of my points, I will feature strategies used by fantasy author Charles E. Yallowitz, who is presently promoting his own book launch for Curse of the Dark Wind, the sixth book in his Legends of Windemere series.

Today is a first for this blog, So I am delighted to introduce you to my first ever guest blogger; Steve Hague from Life in Russia. Steve is a keen Traveller, Photographer, Business Coach and Writer. We have known each other from the early days when we both begun blogging and have been following each other ever since. After moving to Russia to be with his wife and family a couple of years ago, Steve embarked on a new adventure and begun learning a new language and exploring the depths of the Russian culture.  Some time ago I wrote a two part article on the Heritage and history of my town, for Steve’s blog which you can read HERE and HERE. So now it is Steve’s turn, I have to admit, I was delighted to read this interesting and well researched article, as both my wife and daughter are…
