Barbequing: St. Louis Style

Okay, I usually distance myself from politics.ย  Everyone has an opinion and that can be good.ย  I try to voice my thoughts in my writing.

That is what I’m doing now.

Just who in the h e double l does the EPA think it is wanting to regulate backyard Q’s in St. Louis, Missouri?

Car exhaust is one thing but a barbeque fire is totally another.

pork steaks barbequeCooking a pork steak over a slow fire of briquettes can be close to a religious experience.

Picture this:ย  It’s a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.ย  It’s a cool, sunny day…maybe a few wispy clouds floating gently past.ย  The coals in the pit are white but the grill is cool.ย  Ever so slowly the meat cooks as the smoke exits through the chimney.

Budweiser BeerYou sit in a lounge chair, sipping a beer while listening to your favorite baseball team.

Your neighbor asks, “What’s the score?”

You toss him a cold, frosty Bud and say, “Six to three in the bottom of the seventh, us.”

Getting out of your chair, you slide the lid back and check everything.ย  The coals look good and it is time to turn the meat and open another beer, when you realize they just pulled the starter for a new “Lefty Reliever.”

Maull's Barbeque SauceYour wife, boyfriend, or whoever, brings you a pan full of “Maull’s” Bar-B-Que sauce.

Coca ColaTaking a can of Coke from the cooler, you pour the contents into the sauce and place it on the grill to heat up.

Twenty minutes later, the pork steaks are ready to simmer in the sauce while all the neighbors wished that they were friendlier to you.ย  They know they could just light their grill but the food never is as good.

By the time the game is over (and the Cardinals win)ย you and your partner sit at the patio having a dinner that cannot be bought at any Bar-B-Que joint.

Pork Steaks with Maull's Barbeque Sauce

Hey, EPA, are you hungry yet??

If not I can keep going.

Anheuser Busch St. Louis MissouriSt. Louis is heaped in heritage and backyard BBQ’s are one of them, along with baseball and beer.

You guys at the EPA need to get into your backyard, and get a life.ย  Have a couple of cold frosty ones, talk to your neighbors over the fence and eat a pork steak, or a burger and hot dogs.

Above all, RELAX.ย  That is what eating BBQ is all about.

I rest my case…

  1. I love barbequing, nothing like a grilled cheeseburger – the smoky smell and taste from a charcoal brill. Love your post Patrick – it’s time for everyone to fire up the grills!

  2. I’m just waiting for little white lab-coated minions from the EPA spreading out through the many states, coming into people’s backyards uninvited and issuing fines, summonses or whatever. Just another example of this administration’s overreach.

    1. The last time the goons from the EPA were heard from, they were entering South St. Louis…BIG MISTAKE on their part. Those would be the headlines that would be read on Monday morning! Thanks for taking a look at the blog!! Have a great weekend and make sure you barbeque pork steaks ๐Ÿ™‚

      1. Planning on barbecuing with LOTS of smoke. Let me know what happens when you come face to face with them!

      2. Fantastic!! Between 4 dogs and a 12 gauge shotgun…they will never make it down the driveway! If it’s the Sheriff’s department, they will pull up a chair, eat a pork steak sandwich and drink a beer with me ๐Ÿ™‚ Anheuser Busch will not stand for them regulating the beer ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. That’s a ridiculous move ANYWHERE. What more will they try to take away from us. It’s like the ones with front yard veggie gardens being told to take them down because it doesn’t conform to the look of the neighbourhood. So stupid.

    1. Yvonne, those guys from the EPA have never been to the South St. Louis area on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon! I dare them to try to stop anyone from barbequing!! Thanks for visiting!

  4. Reblogged this on Smorgasbord – Variety is the spice of life and commented:
How would you feel if what was a national institution was suddenly banned.. worse still it was an activity that millions all around the world, not just in the US were banned from enjoying.. With all the industrial nations pumping chemicals into the air, when did having a BBQ with the smell of grilling steaks, burgers or pork chops become the next danger to climate change or global warming…sounds like job justification to me.. as science shows we are in fact heading into a cooling period jobs might be lost…. Patrick Jones is not keen on the idea either.. pop over and see why.

  5. OK, now I’m drooling thinking of BBQ.
Good points though, but I’m afraid I got distracted by the BBQ. ๐Ÿ˜‰

    1. My point exactly! That’s what Saturday or Sunday afternoons are supposed to be! They are supposed to make you forget about the ills of the world. (I don’t know if it’s the pork steaks on the grill or the Budweiser)! The EPA definitely has way too much time on their hands!! They need to visit South St. Louis carrying a white flag and profess their sorrow for being stupid. They should also bring coolers full of Bud or Busch to calm everyone down after making such a rash decision!! Thanks for taking the time out of the day to listen to me gripe!!
